Bouldering - Bouldering Questions

Pytanie #1:

What is the best way to strengthen tendons?

As of late, I have been hardcore into bouldering. It is one of my favourite pass times, and I have built my own bouldering wall, so I want to spend as much time as possible doing it.
The problem is that shortly after I start, maybe 4 or 5 climbs in, the tendons in my elbows start to burn and the pain becomes unbearable shortly after. Are there any simple exercises which I could preform to build up tendon strength and lengthen my bouldering sessions?

Pytanie #2:

What are the best rockclimbing/bouldering shoes?

I just started out and I love it. I want to get my own shoes, but I'm not sure what to get. Any advice would be nice.

Pytanie #3:

Why would they ask me if I was hurt if they act like they don't care?

Well I go to a bouldering group and have no friends in the group, and most of them are just guys. I think I see the guys staring at me, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable, and I just feel like I'm not wanted. Everyone else has friends in the group but barely anyone makes an effort to talk to me and I've already gone to the bouldering group meets 3 times. So of course I just assumed they don't care and think I'm going to quit. But then when I fell by accident (it wasn't huge or anything) almost everyone was like "are you okay" "sure you don't want me to check it out" and stuff and came up to me.

So now I'm confused. Do they want me to leave or not? And if I actually stay how do I make friends with the guys (since I'm really shy)

Btw I'm 24

Pytanie #4:

My Life in a Nutshell: Mom with cancer, life at home college Advice?

1. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer a little over a year ago and it has been quite an experience. We have had to call an ambulance twice, she had two major surgeries, been told she doesn't have a lot of time twice, she spent Jan. 8 to mid March in the hospitals, medicines interacting to cause hallucinations (temporary) and jerking (permanent). Now they are saying that her chemo is not working anymore and that they are looking for trials. To make it worse she has to get a biopsy to see if it has spread because she got a CAT scan and some new masses appeared in her uterus. The one good thing is that we have health insurance that pays for everything after you pay $5000 so the bills are not racking up Still the whole thing sucks. At school I used to talk to my guidance counselor about all of it and he always made me feel better but unlike last summer he did not tell me to email him so I am on my own and I always knew he helped but I didn't know it was this much. I would kill to talk to him.
2. It is my job to cook and clean and take care of my mom. My sister is 31 and still lives at home because she is learning disabled and can't get a job that pays enough for her to live in a place she wants to live, but she does have the money to buy a new laptop and iPhone (ugh). My brother Andrew is 27 and just bought his first house and Chris is 20 and is home from college. He works most of the time at my dad's work. We have our moments. Taking care of my mom is not that bad any more. Last summer she was really sick, but now she just sleeps a lot and sometimes gets really depressed so then I just try to get her to leave the house which usually makes her feel better. I clean the house and then make dinner and often dessert. This year they started paying me $50 to clean which is nice because I am not allowed to get a job but I don't feel like they appreciate it still. Yesterday my dad came home and said "I love you for cleaning" and that is exactly what concerns me. He never says he loves me. Then I didn't make dinner that night and my brother came home and said "What happened to you making dinner" and complained for the rest of the night. I don't understand why every meal they have must be hot and prepared for them. Are they incapable of making themselves a sandwich. I feel like they are way nicer to my brother despite the fact that he does nothing to contribute to our family. I cook, I clean, I take out the trash, mow the lawn and take care of my mom and I get $50. My brother gets cubs tickets right by third base, and a furnished apartment. I was signed up to go to do the Rocky Mountain Challenge but my mom canceled it saying it was too dangerous. When I was in third grade my mom got sick (not cancer) and I cooked and cleaned and took care of her from 5th-9th grade. Things were good sophomore year until she got cancer. I feel like that is all I have done my whole life. I feel like I don't have any really great experiences for my childhood and this is my last real summer and I thought this camp thing could be the beginning of something that could be for the rest of my life. I go to a bouldering gym all the time and I love it. Right after my mom told me she canceled it I told her all of this and my parents just got mad and said that I have more than my brother because I have a car and that is true but the thing is he had one too. My parents went out and bought me a used pt cruiser and my brother inherited my mom's old car which was loaded. We are spoiled brats.
3. I would love to go to Loyola and I think I will get in because I am in the top 5% of my class and coach Special Olympics bocce ball and gold. Just yesterday I got a call from Roosevelt University and they talked to my mom. They are offering me a full scholarship with room and board. My dad and brother said that it was the community college of Chicago and doesn't count for much but neither one of them got a full scholarship anywhere so they shouldn't complain.

Pytanie #5:

Rock climbing gloves?

I just started bouldering and my hands hurt when I climb (obviously) and I know if I build up callouses they won't but i really don't want callouses (i want pretty hands lmao) I know it's sort of ridiculous but are there climbing gloves or other ways to stop it from hurting without callouses thanks

Pytanie #6:

how do climbing sponsorships work?

I have been bouldering for 6 years and can do up too a V13/8b and I was wondering if i should apply for a sponsorship or wait to get offered. I was also wondering how they worked (like if you get paid and if you get your free stuff online or at shops) and how likely it is that i can get sponsored by La Sportiva or Black Diamond.
I am male and live in cape town south africa. i compete every month or so and have won quite a few competitions

Pytanie #7:

How to convince my parents to let me go to camp? Skim it and tell me what u think?

In May my mom and I signed me up to do the Rocky Mountain Challenge and were both very excited. Now they are saying it is too expensive and dangerous and that they don't want me to die. It costs $735 and $450 to get there (unless they let my boyfriend drive me which will happen when pigs fly). Totaling $1,185 which is a lot I know but it is very important to me. I have already paid $100 of it and this Friday I will have another $320 leaving $765. If I had until I left for camp I would have enough money to pay it all off, but because it is due on June 25, I don't. I need my parents to loan me the money because I don't have a job because my mom will not let me get one. They have gone out and bought my brother a new drum set before and it cost $1000 because the drums are his thing and he loves them. It is how he relieves his stress and my parents want him to be happy. And I know it is none of my business but I have ran errands for them and seen their accounts. The money is there.
I think rock climbing is my thing. I go to the bouldering gym at least once a week and I love it. When I am done I feel like a beast and when I leave I want to run and continue being really active. When I get sore from climbing I love it because it means I am getting better and with everything else I have done I hate it unless I am the best but with this I don't care. I just want to keep doing it. Even after I fell and messed up my ankle for a couple months I still wanted to keep doing it. It makes me feel really good and I actually can breath easier and fuller afterwards. It is almost like I get a high from it. Also I am 17 and I feel like this is my last summer. Next summer I will have a job at my dad's work for sure. This is it and I want to make it worth while and even though this maybe my last summer I feel like this could be a hobby I do for the rest of my life.
I feel like I deserve this trip too. I know I don't that I do what I should do and it is what is good for me so there shouldn't need to be a reward. I am in the top 5% of a competitive school, and I take care of my mom without a single complaint. She has cancer and now it is under control but last summer was horrible. For those of you who have never personally witnessed the effects of chemo it f****** sucks and as soon as my mom got sick my older sister and 2 older brothers practically ran out the door while I stayed. I also both then and now clean the house and make dinner every night. It is a lot of responsibility and I succeeded. It is time to add another challenge. How can I persuade my parents to let me go. I will pay them all back 100% by the end of the summer. Also in exchange for not letting me go to camp they say they will let me go skydiving with my boyfriend's family so I don't go for the rock climbing is too dangerous.

Does this sound like a human being to you?

Good looking, journalist with a little bit more than average smarts but very good 'logical smarts' if you will however not a REALLY clever person. Has one VERY close friend but a broad spectrum of close friends and acquaintances. Likes art museums, horse riding, being with her friends.bouldering and running in her spare time oh and also reading. Spontaneous but can knuckle down and be serious when needed to be. A pescetarian, loves animals, is renown for being an 'un b*tchy' person and tries to look after herself and family, however can get stressy with family and some people she disagrees with.

Pytanie #14:

Help me build my climbing wall?

Hey guys! I have decided to build a wall this summer to help me train for bouldering season. The problem is that I live in Florida and it's very rainy/humid. The wall will have to be outside so do know some good ways to protect it from the weather? I'll probably put a roof or tarp over it..

Pytanie #15:

How can I practice rock climbing w/o a gym for 2.5 months?

I have been rock climbing at a gym for 2 months now and I am literally addicted (especially to bouldering). However, in a couple of weeks I am done with college and am going home for the summer. At home the closest gym is 30 minutes away and is SO expensive compared to what I pay now!

Right now I am lucky because i pay a student rate of $34/month. However at this new gym you pay a $89 intiation fee plus $50/month (also student rate). That would be $189-239 for just this summer ): . My work doesnt start until the fall so I would have to borrow money from my parents to pay.

So my question is, how can I still stay fit/improve my rock climbing? I cant boulder or climb at outdoor locations because I dont have the equipment, experience, or resources. Im so sad because I can barely go a few days without going climbing. Maybe it would be worth the money...it is probably a bigger gym?...I dunno :/ . I am even thinking of driving back to school early just so I can climb lol
forgot to mention the gas money I would need to get to that gym!

Hello people of India, what are your major leisure activities?

Nearly 30% men of white race must have had the experience of one or two of the following leisure activities:

Angling
Biking
Bouldering
Caving
Hot air ballooning
Kayaking
Gliding, Paragliding
Sailing, Parasailing
Rafting
Safaris
Diving, Scubadiving
Skiing
Skydiving
Trekking
Ziplining
Zorbing

What is that percentage in India? Less than 10%?

Ours is more of Karmic activity than leisure exploration of the world and nature. Our land was called Karma Bhoomi, Dharma Bhoomi, Yagna Bhoomi and Jnaana Bhoomi.

Among all countries in the world, India has inherited
the largest number of ancient manuscripts from time
immemorial. They were written on the widest range of
subjects known to humans.

Indians have traveled around the world in ships to
spread their knowledge since millenia. The oldest
universities of the world like Patali Putra and Taksha
Sila are located in India. Scholars from far east and
Europe came here for higher knowledge.

"The oldest University of the world was founded at
Taxila, where taught the great grammarian Panini."

What are the best (and also the closest) outdoor bouldering areas near Beijing, China?

I'll be studying soon at the Beijing International Art School but want to be able to continue climbing. Indoor walls are also useful for winter but I prefer bouldering above ropes and would welcome outdoor (on real rock) suggestions.

Pytanie #29:

Outward Bound: Utah. Worth it?

I've been faced with two big dilemmas for this fall. Do I take a year off or go straight to college? Assuming I take a gap year, I have been looking into somethings to do. I'm looking for a good balance between work and travel. I found a really amazing semester program in southern Utah for the fall that consists of rafting, rock climbing, bouldering, and desert backpakcing. This is something that I would love to do, even though I don't have much experience in those fields. I am very active and spend alot of time outdoors and think I could handle it though. So I'm asking anyone who has done an Outward Bound or NOLS trip; is it worth it? $6000 is a lot to throw down when I'm trying to save up for college, but it would also be an incredible experience. What's your opinion?

Pytanie #30:

Rock Climbing/Bouldering In the Caribbean, Things Unsafe to touch/climb on?

Hey folks, in a few months I'm going on a cruise to Kings Wharf, Bermuda; Nassau, Bahamas; Coco-cay, and Bahamas with My girlfriend and her family. My Girlfriend and I are huge into rock climbing and bouldering... At home we have our bouldering pads etc etc.
We will be bringing our climbing shoes on the cruise, and hope to lots of bouldering on the shores and have fun doing that. My question is are there things that are poisonous our dangerous that shouldn't be touched or climbed on. We are thinking coral will be fun, but I heard from someone, somewhere, don't remember from who or where, that coral, or certain types can be poisonous. Is this true? If there is anything that we should NOT boulder on, could I get some links to images and or detailed information on these things?
Thanks!

As a second question, I wear La Sportiva Miura, and used to wear 5-10 Galileo, and my issue is, when i Toe hook, my heel likes to slip out of the shoe, as for my size, i am normally an 11 1/2" to an 11", but I'm wearing 10''s because of this issue of the heel hook, They are tight, very tight, to the point where my toe nails are now ingrown :( .
A fellow climber suggested my heel was just abnormally shaped, and the shoes just dont hug my feet... suggestions?

FYI... first question is most imporant.
Thanks guys!

Pytanie #32:

I'm 17 and thinking of starting on Glucosamine, should i?

Hello, if anyone would be so kind as to help me with a few of my questions.

im 17 years old and a rock climber, specifically enjoying to boulder (what is bouldering?: Click Here ) and over the coming months will start running regularly as i have recently put on a bit of weight.

While doing these activities however i notice that my joints specifically my fingers, knees and sometimes back, pops, this may be due to a paranoia i have, but if anyone could shed some light on this. I also understand that Glucosamine may avoid any future injuries in this area, am i right in this statement?

I was reccommended by another climber that i should start on Glucosamine. However i have learned from sources including my parents (whom i know that unfortunatly arn't always right) and the internet. That it is not totally safe. What i would like to know is the following:

- Does Glucosamine have any long term side effects such as my body becoming dependant on the extra supplement where i to stop administering it?
- Would taking it only for 6 months be wise?
- What dosage should i take?
- Would taking it oraly damage my body e.g. my stomach lining?
- Is there anything else i would need to know about?

I know theres a lot of questions here, i hope someone will bare with me..

Thanks in advance

this is all indoor btw, if that matters.

I am fully recovered right now, with the ability to swim over 15000 yards a week, Rock Climb (bouldering) run triathlons, lift weights, cycle and everything else. Also I have already passed the Pre qualification test for the SO program. I have full mobility and strength. I was cleared by my Orthopedic over 4 months ago. Before that I was releases without restrictions over 7 months ago. I am still worried that my medical waiver will not be approved. Is there anyone out there that has knowledge on this? i have been bouldering on a regular basis for the past few months and have gotten alot better, but i feel i have gotten to a point where i need to work on my strength so i can move on.

i don't have a membership to any gym or access to weight sets. so if yall have any good ones that don't involve weights that would be great! i do have a chin up bar though.

i also have that powerball thats supposed to help with forearm strength, but i have a hard time getting it going, so if yall have any good tips to help with that it would be much appreciated!

Pytanie #44:

Workouts/Stretches for a new climber?

I've been rock climbing (mostly bouldering) for about two months now, and I'm completely addicted. Any advice on how to improve finger/arm/core strength?

Pytanie #45:

What crash pad would you recommend for bouldering?

My skill level has outgrown the small starter crash pad I currently have. I've been looking for a new one and one that is thick and can take a beating. I've been looking at the Black Diamond Mondo, the Trango Samurai, and others. My ex climbing partner has one that is filled with air. Not a blowup pad, but it feels like a waterbed. What are your thoughts? I want to feel comfortable taking a healthy fall on one, one that is durable, and one that isn't too heavy or bulky.

Pytanie #46:

How tall and old do you have to be to be an underware model?

I'm 15, 16 in February, live in the UK.
Very small waist (I'm skinny but very well toned from bouldering [a type of climbing - without a rope] so I have ripped stomcha muscles), good peachy bum ( but not big), hourglass figure forming (hips still growing),
Bra size 30D but probably soon DD. 5 ft 6

I get comments on my bum all the time and I'm very thin. I've always wanted to be a model and I think I have the body and if I work hard I think it could be even better (sorry to be so narcissistic!) but I would absoluty LOVE to be an underware model like crazyy!! NOT GLamour!

But atm I'm 5 ft 6!!!!!!!
I have a pretty face if I say so myself & taking that from others BUT am I too small to be an underware model?

Do you think at 16 I can do it part time, say teenage undie modeling?

Thanks for your time!
oops I meant 'underwear model'!

ooo great! I have small hips :) yayyyy and good sized boobs woop woop and they're growing! :):):):)
(well i look average in clothes cuz it's a small chest '30' but in bra''s/ bikini's they look good cuz I'm a D/DD soon

Thank you for such fast replys!!
OK! Sorry for the spelling mistake!!
I have just got an A* in my English lit exam haha soo this is just shows this is an easy going site! I bet I'd kick your ass in any test Texas girl!

Pytanie #47:

First date: Would this be a good idea?

Would it be a good idea to rock climb (just bouldering, nothing crazy) on a first date? What about learning how to skydive (its an all day thing, though).

I don't want to freak a girl out, and I don't want her to get upset at how long the date takes (learning to skydive takes a whole day). But I LOVE doing this sort of stuff, and think its exciting.

So would you like to do stuff like this on a date?

Pytanie #48:

How can I learn how to rock climb?

The nearest rock climbing gym is 100 miles away. I live in northern Arkansas, and although there are GREAT places to climb out here, I don't want to start off too heavy duty. Plus, I don't know anyone who would join me.

So, do you have any suggestions? I was wanting to try bouldering (?) for a while to get the feel of it, but even doing that by yourself is dangerous (break a leg in the middle of nowhere).

So, any suggestions?

First time snowboarding question - balance?

Ok, I suck at rollerskating. I tried it once and failed miserably. I couldn't even stand up by myself. Did not have fun and never came back. My (horrible) friend said that it is because I have such horrible balance. On the other hand, however, I am naturally good at rock climbing (learned very quick and have won climbing/bouldering competitions within months), and balance is very importance in this sport.

So I'm wondering whether snowboarding will be like rollerskating...I know I will fall a lot like many first timers but will it be harder for me since I can't even roller skate? What do you think?

Is there a rock climbing area in Orange County?

I'll be in Huntington Beach the Month of December and was wondering if there is any moderate rock climbing in Orange county. Even bouldering or class 4 scrambling would work for me.
