Pytanie: How can I get started with Rock Climbing?

( Wstecz )

Answer #1:

Well, I can think of a few new items you'll need:
1) A climbing partner ;-)
2) A harness, carabiner, and ATC
3) A couple of routes to climb
4) Belay skills. And for anything other than top-rope, include lead climbing skills.

If your bouldering gym also has routes, you're already set. Just rent the extra gear, take their 20 minute safety instruction class and off you go. Even if they don't have routes, I'm sure some of the regulars climb routes elsewhere - about 70% of the boulderers I know also climb routes, if only to build endurance. So just ask around and tag long for a day.

If all else fails, visit a new gym to get started. Bring your own climbing partner.

Answer #2:

Talk to people in your gym. Chances are a handful of outdoor climbers use it to train and would be able to offer advice about getting started that's specific to your area.

My own experience looked something like this: climbed at a gym for half a year, met other people there who climbed outdoors and became buddy-buddy with them, was invited to follow trad climbs at local crag, apprenticed under these leaders and consumed extensive literature in the process, began leading easy climbs, progressed through the grades as I got more comfortable.
