Pytanie: Rock Climbing/Bouldering In the Caribbean, Things Unsafe to touch/climb on?

( Wstecz )

Answer #1:

Don't climb on the coral... you'll kill it. You're thinking of fire coral (the stuff that burns). You can look it up online, but don't touch it. Coral will be in the water, and you wouldn't climb it anyway.

I don't want to disappoint you, and I've never been to Bermuda or heard of Kings Wharf, but the Bahamas are not going to be good for rock climbing. They're very low coral islands. There's a very good chance that any rocks you find were put there by humans, and even I, with cigarette and painkiller (a rum drink) in hand, could easily climb them. Have fun though, and drink a painkiller or two. ;)

Answer #2:

Google turns up some nice rock climbing options for Bermuda: Click Here

But not much for the Bahamas...
Here's a discussion thread at rockclimbing.com that seems to confirm that: Click Here
And an image of the sea "cliffs" at Freeport: Click Here

Things unsafe to touch...
1) Live coral, sea porcupines, the business end of moray eels and other assorted crap that you'll only find underwater.
2) The local women (at least in the presence of your girlfriend and her family ;-)
3) There is no 3.

By the way, how much time do you have for climbing? Many cruises let you off the ship just long enough for some tourist shopping at the port towns.
Buildering on the ship could be highly entertaining but I doubt the crew will appreciate it.

As for the shoes, visit a REI or other store with a decent selection and try on some different brands and models - those La Sportiva Miuras clearly aren't working for you.

Answer #3:

Obviously when you say coral you mean coral outcrops on the beach...the dead kind right? Live coral is very fragile, and is found only under water, cant imagine you bouldering on coral under water. If the coral is on land than yes its dead and safe to climb....But since there are a lot of holes and crevices in dead coral it`ll hold a lot of spiders, snakes, insects etc...of which I do not know which is poisonous and which is not.

Answer #4:

never touch bright red/orange coral! I did this once and it turned out to be "fire coral" it has millions of tiny little prickers that burn you badly. it burns then itches then burns again for days. u can solve this problem by soaking your hand in white distilled vinegar. i forget how long, u'll have to look it up...
